3 x Passive Attenuator

3 x Passive Attenuator

The 3 x Passive Attenuator is an older project that offers, as its name implies, three independent passive attenuators. This very simple module is extremely useful when you need to reduce the amplitude of a signal that would be too strong for another module, or when sending a Eurorack-level voltage to a more sensitive, non-Eurorack audio equipment.

Circuit Description

Schematic of 3 x Passive Attenuator
The circuit is, obviously, extremely simple: one input, one output, and one potentiometer per channel.
The third channel can be AC-coupled by adding a series capacitor, while the other two channels are DC-coupled.

As the module is passive, there is no need for power input.

Components

The potentiometers can be of any value, typically in the 10kΩ to 100kΩ range.
Choose linear taper potentiometers for attenuating CV signals, and audio/logarithmic taper pots for audio signals.

The jack sockets are “Thonkiconn” (QingPu WQP-PJ301M-12, WQP-WQP518MA, WQP-PJ398SM…).
